Even though it is some way off, with the current NBA season in full swing, the 2025 NBA Draft is already creating quite a great deal of buzz. The First Round of the Draft comes in late June, and one name features very high up when it comes to potential picks early on, one of which is hot prospect Cooper Flagg.
The 18-year-old Duke graduate is a player with a bright future who saw a 27-point haul fail to see his team past Houston in the Final Four and is one to watch out for.
Top among those looking to snap up Flagg is the Utah Jazz, with some fans suggesting that the team’s poor run of form, related to leaving top stars out of their remaining regular season games, which led to a $100k fine, was all part of the process of getting the first pick in the draft.
Utah managed just two wins from their final 10, and completed the 2024/25 season with a woeful 17-65 record. Fans who feel that the Jazz, with Flagg on board, can produce an upturn in form next time around may want to back those dreams with a bet. With that in mind, this Caesars sportsbook promo code will make the wager even sweeter.
Should head coach Will Hardy remain at the Delta Center, he will no doubt be looking to bring in Flagg to play with Finnish star Lauri Markkanen, and there are many others equally desperate to capture the 2025 National College Player of the Year.
Hardy has just completed his third season in charge of Utah, and he has presided over successive losing record seasons, with 2024/25 being the franchise’s worst ever.
Jazz star Collin Sexton has come out and made it clear he’d love to see Hardy remain in charge at Utah, commenting on the speculation of a potential exit.
"I feel like Will is a great coach."
"We have a really, really good relationship. He might cuss me out, and I'm like, 'Alright, coach, you're right.' And then, after the game, he was like, "You know what? I might be wrong on that play." I feel like our relationship allows us to be able to scream and yell at one another when it's time, because he definitely gets onto me during the game.”
“But I feel like he's one of the great coaches. You've seen it the past couple years of us all buying in and being there for him. Everyone has his back, to guys that played here, to guys that are still here. We're going to have coach's back through and through." Sexton added.
One feels that acquiring a talent of Flagg’s standing might be a great way of helping turn things around at the Jazz, but one wonders if Hardy will be backed by the team’s owners.
Flagg is not the only Duke star who is set to turn heads early on in the NBA Draft, as 18-year-old centre Khaman Maluach is projected to be a potential top-five pick who emergence as a star performer is all the more impressive given the South Sudan-born teenager didn’t play basketball until he was 13.
The Philadelphia 76ers are said to be a potential suitor for Maluach, with Nick Nurse’s side having something of a nosedive in 2024/25, picking up a .293 record, their worst in almost a decade.
