NATIONAL MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

Three years ago Georgetown’s Jeff Green was named the National Freshman of the Year. He was tabbed a preseason All-American last November and now the 2007 Big East Player of the Year is the collegeinsider.com National MVP.

“Jeff Green is college basketball’s most complete player,” says collegeinsider.com editor-in-chief Joe Dwyer. “He can do it all on the basketball court, but his greatness extends well beyond his physical gifts. His feel for the game is tremendous.”

Green lifted his game in the second half of the season, helping Georgetown to the No. 1 seed in the Big East Tournament where he came up with a 30-point, 12 rebound effort in a comeback win over Notre Dame in the Big East tournament semi-finals.

The 6-foot-9 junior averaged just over 14 points and six rebounds and three assists per game on the year, helping Georgetown to a record seventh Big East Tournament championship and the program’s first since 1989. Green had 21 points and five rebounds in the championship game against Pittsburgh and was named tournament MVP.

Green, who earlier in the season became the 37th player in Georgetown history to surpass the 1,000 point plateau, is only the second Hoya (joining Reggie Williams) with 1,300 points, 600 rebounds and 300 assists.
