MARQUETTE'S RYAN AMOROSO NAMED CI STAR OF THE WEEK

Ryan Amoroso scored a career-high 30 points, including the last five of the game, to help Marquette to its second Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout title with a 92-89 overtime victory over South Carolina at Sullivan Arena.

In addition, the 6-foot-8 sophomore collected a career-best 12 rebounds. Amoroso entered Saturday’s game with just 13 points and nine rebounds through the Golden Eagles’ first two Shootout victories.

Last season Amoroso played in all 31 games, making three starts and was Marquette's most productive reserve, averaged 6.0 points and 3.6 points in 15.2 minutes.

TEAM OF THE WEEK:  Seniors Steve Burtt and Ricky Soliver scored 23 points a piece to help Iona upset No. 23 Iowa State in the championship game of the 2005 American Family Insurance Cyclone Challenge. Soliver was named tournament MVP and Burtt was named All-Tournament for their performances in Iona's perfect run during the three-day event, which saw the Gaels post wins over Howard, Portland State and the host Cyclones.

Iowa State had won 21 staight non-conference games at home, dating back to 2003.
 


WEEK 1 (Nov. 21, 2005)

UC IRVINE’S DARREN FELLS TABBED CI STAR OF THE WEEK

After scoring a career-high 18 points, UC Irvine’s 79-63 win at No. 13 Stanford, Darren Fells has been tabbed as the CollegeInsider.com “Star of the Week.”

The 6-foot-7 sophomore was 6-for-9 from the field (6-for-8 from the free throw line). He also collected nine rebounds, two blocked shots and a career-best five assists in the victory.

Fells leads UCI in scoring (13.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 rpg). He is shooting 51.7 percent from the field.

TEAM OF THE WEEK:  Craig Bradshaw scored a career-high 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Winthrop to a 71-64 victory over Marquette Saturday night in the championship game of the 44th annual Pepsi Blue and Gold Classic in the Bradley Center.

Winthrop broke Marquette's string of six straight titles in its own tournament as the Eagles improve to 2-0 while capturing their second win over a Big East Conference school in as many years. Winthrop defeated Providence last season.
