||1994 Wisconsin-Green Bay
The 1993-94 season was the ninth for Dick Bennett as the head coach at Wisconsin-Green Bay. Three years earlier Bennett had led the Phoenix to the NCAA Tournament, the school’s first-ever postseason appearance. UWGB entered the 1994 NCAA Tournament as the No. 12 seed in the West, just as they had been in 1991 when they almost knocked off Michigan State. This time the opponent was Cal out the Pac-10. The Bears were led by All-Americans Lamond Murray and Jason Kidd. Sophomore Jeff Nordgaard led the Phoenix with 34 points, but the real star was Gary Grzesk who held Kidd to 4-of-17 shooting in the 61-57 upset win.
