I never had the pleasure of meeting Maggie in person, but I certainly got to know her through the thoughts and memories posted on the web page. Words cannot begin to express my sadness in hearing of the death of Maggie. There is no way to understand or explain this happening in human words or understanding. Thus, I have turned to God Almighty with prayers and requests for Maggie's family. I pray that you will feel His arms around you and His hand upon you. May God provide you with "whatever it takes" to deal with such a difficult reality. Maggie has touched many in a deep way in a short period of time. She was a giver so she experienced the highest level of living. I am so glad that she had such a great role model in Janie and was able to experience the exhilaration of a job well done. You are a special family with special friends! I praise the Lord for Maggie's touch on our profession and on many individuals.

In His Strength and Love.

- KAY YOW, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY

Maggie’s passing has hit our profession hard. She wasn’t the head coach at Army. She wasn’t the former assistant at DePaul. She wasn’t a coach of the women’s game. She was just a coach and she represented everything that a coach and a person should aspire to be. More importantly she was a a daughter, a sister and a friend to so many. We all talk about the importance of family, but Maggie didn’t talk about it -- She lived it.

In our profession things are often done for effect. Maggie didn’t sit behind the bench at Pittsburgh games or take every opportunity she had to visit with her brother, Jamie, for effect or attention. She did those things and so much more because family was the single most important thing to her. Maggie impact on the coaching profession will be long lasting. Our prayers are with Jamie and the Dixon family.

- KELVIN SAMPSON, HEAD MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH, INDIANA UNIVERSITY

To the Dixon Family,

My deepest felt sympathy to your entire family.

Some things in life are hard to explain, and Maggie's passing is surely one of them. It should be a reminder to each of us, that life is short and nothing should ever be taken for granted. We should all follow Maggie's example of how to enjoy each day to the fullest.

God Bless.

- TERRY CANOVA, ASSISTANT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA

I didn't know Maggie very well, but every time we were around each other, you got the sense of just how warm and genuine of a person she was. She will always be remembered for the big heart and smile that she had, as well as the positive energy that she gave to those she touched. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Dixon Family. Your daughter/sister is a great inspiration to all of us in the coaching profession.

- BRIAN LOYD, ASSISTANT MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY

The staff and players at Manhattan College send our deepest sympathies during these sad and difficult times to all those that were close to Maggie. Our thoughts and especially our prayers are with the entire Dixon family, as well as the players, staffs and campus communities of West Point and DePaul.

God bless.

- MYNDI HILL, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, MANHATTAN COLLEGE

I'm truly sad to see such a great person be taken away from us so soon. But I know you are in a better place than all of us. I'm still shocked quite honestly because I remember the first time we met in Chicago and the last time I saw you at the WNBA party. My heart goes out to your family and the members of both the University's you have touched while coaching. I know God will help us all through this time!

- DARIUS TAYLOR, ASSISTANT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, TEMPLE UNIVERSITY

To the Dixon Family and West Point Basketball Team,

I am deeply saddened by your daughter's passing. Although, I never met Maggie, I did follow the Army's team progress this season. She was obviously a great leader, a wonderful daughter and a great friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and the many athletes she touched.

God bless you.

- JOAN BONVICINI, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA

The entire men's basketball staff, here at Florida Atlantic University would like to send our deepest sympathies to the entire Dixon family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

- MATT DOHERTY, HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY

To the entire Dixon Family,

Please accept my condolences during this painful time. Maggie was a wonderful person that I got to know while on the road recruiting. Her love for the game was so infectious and many of us "young" coaches looked up to her because her enthusiasm was so genuine.

Maggie has had more of an impact in the 28 years that she was with us than most people will have in their lifetime. Not only did she touch her teammates and the players at DePaul and Army, but there are hundreds of coaches (on both sides of the game) that Maggie has touched in her short time in the coaching world.

She will be missed greatly, but never forgotten. Her spirit will live within all of us who knew Maggie.

- PAM DURKIN, ASSISTANT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, DREXEL UNIVERSITY

Coach Jamie Dixon,

I was in Pittsburgh this past week-end to speak at the Nike Clinic and read so much about your wonderful sister. Words can't begin to express my sorrow and my thoughts and prayers that go out to you and your family. We're tested in so many ways. I hope your memories and love keep you warm through this difficult time.

- JACK BENNETT, FORMER HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, WISCONSIN-STEVENS POINT

The entire New Hampshire basketball program sends our thoughts and prayers to you and your family during this difficult time. The news of Maggie's untimely passing saddened all of us deeply. I was fortunate to have met Maggie if only briefly at the Final Four on Tuesday as we were both leaving the last clinic. She introduced herself to me in reference to the game we were scheduling for next season. I was very struck by her vibrant personality. We spoke for only a few minutes but it was more than enough time to realize that she was a special person and coach. She will clearly be sorely missed by many and the basketball world has lost a rising star.

- SUE JOHNSON, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

To the Dixon Family,

I had the great pleasure of meeting Maggie when first arriving to coach at Cincinnati! She was always so pleasant and full of life. She was a person that never met any strangers. Maggie will be greatly missed!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and the Army Women's Basketball Team. I can understand the pain you are feeling because I lost my husband, who was also an assistant for our team, just over one year ago to a car accident. I cried and cried when I heard about Maggie's death. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Maggie personally but I look forward to seeing her and my husband in heaven some day. Honestly, the pain doesn't ever go away completely but you will find peace again. God Bless.

- KIM GERVASONI, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA

I, along with my family send our deepest Sympathy to the DIXON family. During my tenure, at the University of Memphis i was fortunate to know Maggie as a player and an assistant coach at DePaul. Maggie was a competitor that had a great deal of class. Her competitive spirit allowed her to achieve much success as a player and coach. Maggie was a great role model for our game. She will be missed by many who only knew her from a distance including The McNelis Family.

May God grant the DIXON family peace. You all are in our family prayers.

In Him,

Coach Joye Lee-McNelis, Dennis, Whitney and Connor McNelis.

- JOYE LEE-MCNELIS, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISS

To the Dixon Family,

I am so sorry for your sudden loss. I had the opportunity to see Maggie in Boston and she was so happy and proud of the season we had both had. She coached her first away game as a head coach at Northern Arizona during our tournament with her family looking on in the stands. She was born to coach! I am thankful for the opportunity to have had Maggie be part of my life even if only for a short time.

- LAURIE KELLY, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY

May God Bless You Maggie, you are an inspiration to all and this profession will miss you!

- YVONNE SANCHEZ, ASSISTANT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO

Maggie was a senior captain my first year at USD. She was a vocal and charismatic leader on the floor, on the bench, and in the lockerroom. She outworked every opponent, and occasionally drove Coach Marpe nuts by shuffling her pivot foot on post moves. She broke her foot near the end of her senior year, but we started her on senior night, won the tip, called timeout, and she left the game to a standing ovation. When she graduated, I remember urging Doug Bruno to take a good look at her for his staff and visiting her in Chicago during her summer as "camp mom". Before anybody knew it, she was one of the most respected assistant coaches in division I.

I remember her calling me to discuss strategies for motivating her post players at DePaul to play interior defense. Maggie and I enjoyed swapping coaching stories and memories of her playing career while sitting in the stands during recruiting events. We were often the last ones left late at night at obscure tournaments so we had lots of these conversations. Last spring, Maggie and I spoke on the phone often as we were both applying for head coaching jobs. I remember her calling me to tell me she got the Army job and having a long conversation in which we lamented the timing of the hire (1 week before practice) and all the obstacles in front of her. I remember telling her that she'd be just fine, but she certainly was more than "just fine". My last memory of Maggie will be of her hugging me in Boston at the final four, telling me how happy she was for our success at BC, how excited she was to be in Boston (my new home), and of course some stories of her time in Indianapolis at the men's final four. The last time I saw her before she left Boston, we promised to talk soon and share some more stories from the season.

I have always looked up to Maggie. She thought it was funny when she'd thank me for things I had done for her as a coach and I'd tell her just to "hire me someday when you hit the big time". That probably wasn't far off. The world of women's basketball lost one of its brightest stars this week. I still look up to her and always will. Thank you to the Dixon family for making Maggie the person she was and for sharing her with all of us.

- ERIK JOHNSON, ASSISTANT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, BOSTON COLLEGE

Dear Dixon Family,

Our staff was stunned and saddened to hear the news of your loss. Please know that we are lifting all of you up in our prayers.

- RITCHIE MCKAY, HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO

Coach Dixon will forever remain an inspiration to young coaches everywhere. Watching her this year, in all she accomplished, was truly something remarkable. Seeing her at this year's Final Four is something I now will never forget. My thoughts go out to everyone, and I know that the path she tread will be followed by many.

- SCOTT MOORE, DIRECTOR OF BASKETBALL OPERATIONS, WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY

Dear Dixon Family,

I had the opportunity to recruit Maggie over 10 years ago while I was an assistant coach at University of Reno-Nevada. Maggie visited our campus but chose to sign with University of San Diego. About 5 years ago I ran into Maggie at a coaching clinic and she came right up to me and remembered me recruiting her and we visited for a while and I could see how happy Maggie was coaching. I knew she would be a very successful head coach one day because she had "it". I was so proud of her when she was carried off the floor in her conference championship game. I will never forget that moment.

- JODI KEST, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI

Jamie and the rest of the Dixon family,

All of us out here in the UCSB women's basketball program want you to know how highly we thought of Maggie. Watching her growth from a high school player, to a great, young professional, was a source of joy for our players and staff. We will miss her, but will never forget her!.

- MARK FRENCH, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, UNIVERSITY OF CAL SANTA BARBARA

Dear Jamie and Entire Dixon Family

I know words simply cannot do justice during this most difficult time. Our hearts have been heavy at Marquette since we received the news. I pray that God will meet you every step of the way to bring you the comfort and peace you need. We will never be able to explain why tragic things happen, but if every person who has been touched by Maggie's life takes time to reach out to another in love then I am confident that throughout the basketball community good things will happen.

Many blessings to you.

- TERRI MITCHELL, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY

I never coached against Maggie during her career as a player or during her time at DePaul or Army. What I did do though was get to know her on the road recruiting one July. For whatever reason we seemed to end up heading to the same rental car at the same time in several cities. Needless to say we shared a smile and a laugh after several 'chance meetings". From something that simple she became more than just another coach to me and obviously she became more than that to anyone she crossed paths with. I don't know any words that will ease her loss, however there is on truth... The shadow of her passing cannot begin to dim the brightness of her life

- MARK LEWIS, ASSISTANT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY

Jamie,

I only met your sister briefly at the final 4 in St. Louis. and I could tell she was just like you a wonderful person. Coming from an old guy like myself I know how tough this is. In the short time I was around her I could tell that in her short time here on earth she lived more than so many people who have lived so much longer. I know that is is not much of a satisfaction to you now but the time you spent together is something no-one will ever take from you. Try to keep your head up as all of your friends feel your pain.

- BOB BURTON, HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, CAL STATE FULLERTON

Jamie,

Your pain and sense of loss are beyond anything I can personally imagine. My son is my assistant coach, my daughter is on our women's team and plans to coach; your family's loss has been very real to me and even though we have never met, I grieve with you.

- KEN DEWEESE, HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR

My deepest sympathy to the Dixon family and the Army athletics family, especially the women's basketball team.

While I did not personally know Maggie, I was so excited for her and her team when watching the replays on television after they won the conference championship It was great to see the bleachers empty and rush on to the floor. after the win realizing they were going to the BIG DANCE!

I also watched the interviews between Maggie and her brother as an interest story for the tournament. I was truly happy for Coach Dixon and her team and was inspired by their achievements. To learn of Maggie Dixon's death was devastating and shocking to the coaching world across the nation. She touched so many with her , energy and passion for the game. What wonderful role-model for our young student-athletes of today. Her life made a difference in many others.

While her untimely death leaves many wondering why, may we find comfort in knowing that she is in a far better place than we can begin to imagine. My prayers and thoughts are with everyone.

With deepest sympathy,

- EILEEN KLEINFELTER, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY

To Jaime and Family,

- MIKE PETERSON, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family through this difficult time.

- BETH COMBS, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY

My heart goes out to Maggie's family and close friends. As the head Coach at LMU in the WCC, I had the pleasure to know Maggie through her time as a student-athlete at USD and then from afar as she begin her career in coaching. During Army's championship run I sat at my home and watched her team play and win the championship. I was moved to tears watching her, her team and the students at Army celebrate their win. It was truly one of the best moments I have ever witnessed as a coach of this game. I talked about it for weeks. I will never forget that moment of joy in her face. I saw Maggie at the final four on several occasions, upon getting on the bus after the NIKE party I yelled to her, "USD and WCC in the house", she turned to me and said "Hi Coach", that same expression on her face, full of joy. That is how I will always remember her and I will use it as my inspiration. I am so sorry for your loss, may God's love bring you all peace.

- JULIE WILHOIT, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY

My prayers go out to the Dixon family during these tough times. Although I did not know her personally, I was sadden as I heard the news. We lost a bright star. I will continue to keep you guys in my prayers.

- KIM THOMPSON, ASSISTANT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, APPALACHIAN STATE

Dear Jamie,

I was stunned and so deeply saddened by the news of Maggie's death. I saw her in the lobby of the Boston Marriott and wanted to congratulate her on a wonderful season. She was busy talking with others, so I thought, I'll catch her later in the weekend. Long story short, I missed my opportunity. I do not want to miss this chance now, to tell you how very blessed we all are to have known her. She will be dearly missed in our coaching circle. You and your family remain in our prayers.

God bless.

- MARTI WHITMORE, ASSISTANT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, LOYOLA COLLEGE

Coach Dixon,

Our staff sends our deepest sympathies to the entire Dixon family. During the tournament run we learned about the special relationship between you and Maggie. She has touched so many lives in such a special way. God Bless You!

- DEE ROMINE, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, STETSON UNIVERSITY

Coach Dixon,

Dear Jamie and Mr. and Mrs. Dixon,

The news of Maggie's sudden death is a reminder of just how precious our time on earth is. Your sister and daughter was truly a great ambassador of the game. I knew Maggie when she played at USD (as an opposing coach at USF) and she was a tremendous role model for younger girls. I saw Maggie at the women's Final Four and congratulated her on the great season at Army and advancing to the NCAA tournament. She was beaming of her team's accomplishments! Little did I know that would be the last time I would see Maggie. After reading about her time at Army, I have no doubt the huge impact she has had on the lives of her student-athletes. She is everything that is good about the game of basketball...she cares about people, and most importantly her family was at the center of her life. My thoughts and prayers go out to you in this most difficult of times. Know that Maggie's influence will live on in every young woman's life that she has touched. We all have been blessed by her time with us!

- MARY HILE-NEPFEL, FORMER HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, SAN FRANCISCO

To the Dixon Family,

May the Good Lord cover you with a blanket of Peace ,Strength and Love. Maggie will be a source of inspiration to all of us in the profession for the way she taught, coached and lived.

God Bless!

- RALPH WILLARD, HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, COLLEGE OF THE HOLY CROSS

- CHRIS BUNCH, HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Jamie,

Our entire program was saddened by the news of Maggie's death. Getting to know your relationship with her through the media, it was easy to see how much you two genuinely cared for each other. My heart hurts for you. One of our players came by the office yesterday and remarked to me "I guess that's what you're talking about when you tell us not to take a single day for granted." Please know, even in her death, Maggie is still teaching and still making a difference. We will be praying very hard for you and your family.

- SCOTT LANG, HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, LA ROCHE COLLEGE

Jamie Dixon,

I would like to express my deepest sympathy on the sudden passing of Maggie. I pray that the Lord will comfort you & give you peace in this time of sorrow. May the Lord bless you.

- FRANK BENNETT, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, LIPSCOMB UNIVERSITY

Maggie embodied was is right about our business. She took a dedicated group of young women, molded them and made them believe they could achieve. She was a teacher in every sense. She will be misssed by her family, her friends but also by this small fratenity of people we call College basketball Coaches, because even at her young age, she showed us how things should be done.

Rest in Peace Maggie.

- BILL AGRONIN, HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, NIAGARA UNIVERSITY

Dear Dixon Family,

I did not know Maggie, but it sounds like she was what we all strive to be and I know you are very proud of her. I just wanted to say that my families prayers and thoughts are with all of you during this time.

- TOM RYAN, HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, ECKERD COLLEGE

The legacy of a parent is best seen in the lives their children have carved out for themselves. Maggie and Jamie 's success is a true testament to theit parents guidance, mentoring, and most importantly. their love for their children. May the whole DIXON family present a piece of Maggie daily through the way you touch the lives of others. God bless you all.

We love you!

The Schmotzer Family.

- DAN SCHMOTZER, HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, COKER COLLEGE

When Maggie jumped out of the workout room on Friday after our team breakfast in the hotel in Indy to talk, she was beaming. So happy for us, that we made it to the Final Four - so unselfish in her thoughts, having just completed a phenomenal season herself at West Point in her very first year as a head coach, leading her team to the NCAA tourney. I have known her for only 5 years, but realized her specialness and bond with Jamie from the time I met her that day in the Marina del Rey Marriott. It isn't often that you remember the exact time, place and day you meet someone you don't see everyday, but I do with Maggie - and that is indicative of the effect she had on people. It is not surprising that her team was so successful, and I know her memory and legacy will live in so many that were blessed to have met and known her. My family's thoughts and prayers are with Jamie and the entire Dixon family.

- KERRY KEATING, ASSISTANT MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, UCLA

Jamie,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I can't imagine your pain. Watching you and Maggie together in New York and at the Final 4 was special. In a profession where everyone is preoccupied you always had time for each other. It brings a smile to my face to think of the way you interacted. I have no doubt Maggie will always be with you.

- SETH GREENBERG, HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH, VIRGINIA TECH

Dear Jamie,

While we only knew Maggie for a short period of time it didn’t take long to understand why so many have held her in high praise. Maggie certainly had a magnetic personality, but most importantly she was so genuine. Listening to her speak about you was both refreshing and comforting. In a profession with so many self-absorbed individuals, it was so nice to hear one speak so highly of another. I only wish that I had the opportunity to have known her better. But I knew her well enough to know that she probably wasted no time in making introductions above. “Hello God, my name is Maggie Dixon and I would like to coach your team.”
