Tom Schuberth returns to the UCF bench to begin his
fourth year with the Golden Knights. Schuberth was
promoted to associate head coach following the
2003-04 campaign.
At UCF, Schuberth serves as the program's recruiting
coordinator. He also assists with scheduling and
opponent scouting. He additionally works directly
with the Golden Knights backcourt players.
Entering his 24th season as a collegiate coach, he
has helped guide 11 squads to the NCAA Tournament
and has seen 14 of his teams claim conference
championships in five different leagues.
With Schuberth on the sidelines, the Golden Knights
have recorded a 70-26 record since the start of the
2002-03 season, a mark that ranks first in the state
of Florida and 23rd nationally during that span. The
team has made two straight trips to the NCAA
Tournament and won its first Atlantic Sun Conference
regular season crown last year.
Under Schuberth's tuteledge, seven Golden Knight
standouts have garnered all-league accolades in the
past three years.
Before arriving in Orlando, Schuberth spent the
2001-02 season at UAB, a Conference USA member. He
served as an assistant at Southeast Missouri State
from 1997-01. During his time with the Indians, the
team won the Ohio Valley Conference title and
advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2000.
Schuberth spent five years at Memphis during the
mid-1990s, where he made his mark as one of the top
recruiters in the nation. In 1993, his recruiting
class was ranked No. 1 nationally by analyst Bob
Gibbons. He helped the Tigers sign Lorenzen Wright,
a McDonald's High School All-America selection, who
went on to earn national freshman of the year honors
in 1996.
While at Memphis, Schuberth's saw the 1995 squad
capture the Great Midwest Conference Championship
and advance to the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers 1996 team won the Conference USA title.
The Chicago native began his coaching career at
North Alabama in 1982. He then spent nine years as
the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at
Louisiana-Monroe. During his tenure at ULM, the team
participated in the NCAA Tournament on four
occasions and earned one invite to the National
Invitation Tournament.
Schuberth played collegeiately at Mississippi State,
where he was a three-time letterwinner.
Additionally, he was named to the Southeastern
Conference All-Academic Team and was an honorable
mention Academic All-American. In 1979, he was third
in the SEC in assists (107) and first in charges
taken. He spent his freshman year at UNLV and was
part of the school's 1977 Final Four team. |
