Brad Stevens is in his third season as an assistant
basketball coach for the Bulldogs. In his first two
seasons at Butler, the Bulldogs compiled a 53-12
record, won two Horizon League regular season
championships and made two post-season tournament
appearances. He handles duties in recruiting,
scheduling, skills instruction, on-court coaching
and game preparation. He also serves on the
instructional staff at Butler’s summer basketball
camps. Stevens joined the Bulldogs’ staff in 2000-01
as coordinator of basketball operations, handling a
variety of administrative duties.
“I really got to know Brad well in his first year
with us, and I developed a great deal of respect for
his talents and ability. I feel fortunate that we
could keep him on our staff,” stated Butler head
coach Todd Lickliter.
“He has a tremendous hunger and passion for the
game, and a real desire to coach. He fits in so well
with our system, and he understands what we try to
accomplish.”
Stevens left a position as a marketing associate at
Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis in June of
2000 to pursue a career in basketball coaching. He
served in a volunteer capacity in Butler’s
basketball office during the summer of 2000, before
eventually gaining a full-time administrative
position on coach Thad Matta’s staff in the fall of
2000.
Prior to joining the Bulldogs’ staff, Stevens served
as a volunteer basketball coach at Carmel High
School, working with coach Pete Smith. He further
served as an assistant coach for the 17-year-old
Municipal Gardens’ AAU team, helping Municipal
Gardens to a 12th place finish in the national
tournament.
Stevens completed a fine high school basketball
career in 1995 as the all-time basketball leading
scorer at Zionsville High School in Indiana. During
his prep career, he set team all-time records for
three-point field goal and assists. He went on to
earn all-conference and academic all-conference
honors as a four-year member of the basketball squad
at DePauw University. He served as a team captain
and received the squad’s “Coaches Award” in 1998-99.
The backcourt player earned four varsity basketball
letters.
Stevens earned a B.A. degree in economics from
DePauw in 1999. He was married last summer, and he
and his wife, Tracy, reside in Indianapolis. |
