THE FASHIONABLE 4
Cleveland State’s Gary Waters joined
Bruiser Flint, Willis Wilson and Jay Wright as the only coaches
to capture two fashion championships. Waters had to out-style
Wright in the national semifinals before defeating Kerry Keating
in the championship. The Santa Clara head coach became the first
to advance to the Fashionable 4 as both a head coach and an
assistant. Keating appeared in the Assistant Coach Fashionable 4
in four straight seasons (2004-07). Virginia Tech’s Seth
Greenberg silenced the critics by making the Fashionable 4 for a
second consecutive season. Most fashion experts thought it was a
complete fluke that Greenberg made it to the Fashionable 4 in
2007.
Melvin Watkins advanced to the Fashionable 4 as a head
coach, with Texas A&M, in 2001. Seven years later he was crowned
Best-Dressed Assistant Coach at Missouri. Bacari Alexander
(Ohio) made his third appearance in the Fashionable 4 in four
seasons. Pittsburgh’s Orlando Antigua made his second straight
appearance, while Brion Dunlap (Mount St. Mary’s) made his
first.
