THE FASHIONABLE 4

For the first and only time in Fashionable 4 history, all four participants were previous champions. Defending champion Neil Dougherty (TCU) was joined by Drexel’s Bruiser Flint (2001 Champ), Rice’s Willis Wilson (2002 Champ) and Villanova’s Jay Wright (1998 and 99 champ). For Wilson is was a staggering seventh Fashionable 4 in eight seasons. Flint was crowned champion and thus became the first coach to win a title with two schools.

It was expected to be a coronation for Kerry Keating (UCLA), the title instead went to Detroit’s Bacari Alexander. After sharing the title in 2003 and winning alone in 2004, Tony Jones was unable to get back to the Fashionable 4 for a shot a three-peat.
