THE FASHIONABLE 4 The
competition for America’s best-dressed coach expanded from 16 to a
full-blown 64-coach field, bracketed like the NCAA men’s basketball
tournament. And the event has a new name. It’s now officially the
“Runway to the Fashionable 4.”
Jay Wright’s dominance finally came to end as Lehigh’s Sal
Mentesana, who had finished runner-up to the Hofstra coach in
1998 and 1999, finally out-styled his friend to claim the title.
Kent State’s Gary Waters and Kentucky’s Tubby Smith made their first
appearances in the Fashionable 4. Both look like future catwalk
contenders.
