For
the second straight season the CollegeInsider.com
National Freshman of the Year goes to the University
of Memphis, with Tyreke Evans taking the honors for
2009.
"The play of Tyreke Evans kept Memphis among the elite
teams in the nation," says CollegeInsider.com's Matt
Drake. "He litterally got better with each posession
and by season's end was an All-American."
Named to the COllegeInsider.com All-America team,
Evans led the Tigers in scoring (16.6 ppg) and steals
(75). He is averaging 5.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists,
while shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 69.7
percent from the free throw line. The nine-time
Conference USA Rookie of the Week was ranked among the
league leaders in scoring, rebounding, field goal
percentage, assists and steals.
Evans, who ranks first on the Memphis all-time
freshmen steals list with 75 swipes, was also a
finalist for Wooden Award and the Oscar Robertson
Trophy. He was also named C-USA Tournament MVP.
Last season Memphis’ Derrick Rose was named CI
National Freshmen of the Year. |
