The
two-time defending Big East Defensive Player of the
Year is the recipient of the 2009 CollegeInsdier.com
National Defensive Player of the Year honors.
“He is a difference maker,” says CollegeInsider.com’s
Matt Drake. “His presence on the floor completely
changes the way you game-plan for Connecticut.
The 7-foot-3 junior almost eclipsed the Big East
single season record for blocked shots, recording 89.
The record is 94 set by Thabeet last season. He
recorded a season-high 10 blocks against Providence
(Jan. 31) and is now second all-time in Big East play
with 243 career blocks (Patrick Ewing had 247 in his
career, 1981-85). And he is second to none, all time
in the Big East, in blocks per game with 4.67.
Overall Thabeet had 150 blocks on the season. He also
averaged a double-double this (13.5 ppg, 10.9 rpg) in
helping the Huskies to the Final 4. |
