2010 RUNWAY RECAP
by Jill Montgomery

Well the 2010 Runway to the Fashionable 4 has come to an end and what a huge success the entire experience was! Bruiser Flint winning another Head Coach Title just goes to show that yes, fashion does have its cycles and can strike GOLD at anytime. As for Assistant Coach Champion Bacari Alexander, well what can I say; the man can strut with the best. (And suddenly I want a Mojito). Just a few comments I would like to make. First, a very big thank you to Angela Lento for bringing me on board this season, wow what an honor. Angela, you are not only beautiful, but a genius and yes I will give you Giselle Buncheon hair!

There were some major upsets this season, some major cry babies and some of you in just plain need of MAJOR fashion help! In the upset category “Rico Suave” Final 4 finalist Carmen Marciariello- almost pulling a Carmello Anthony like upset and winning the title his freshman year! Some words of advice from the rookie:

“Always have at least 2 ties on the road and NEVER the opposing teams color. At the hotel get your shoes shined, keep your step fresh AND you’re helping out someone else. Lastly wear lace up dress shoes, we are soldiers now when we are Head Coaches we can wear loafers!”

Looks like someone is DEFINITELY off on the right foot. Probably the biggest surprise was The “Duke of Asbury”. I recently sat down with the regal Tom Asbury for a lovely lunch at The Lobster in Santa Monica and although he didn’t say much, it was profound:

“I was delighted that the Committee finally recognized REAL style. Having over 65 custom made suits in my closet that cost more than the car Greenberg drives definitely kept me in the hunt. I applaude the Committee and have no ill feelings losing to a past champion like Flint. He walks the Runway with grace. Looking forward to next season.”

As I sipped my Champagne and admired his linen outfit only one work came to mind: Classy. Finally, to play off of Seth’s “What we have learned” I would like to lend a few learning lessons of my own:

  • Gentlemen, fashion is a lot like your teams, sometimes you have “God Given talent” (Jay Wright) and sometimes you have to teach, nurture and bring along your ability in order to become a champion (Bill Self) <-----needs to hire me personally.

  • Fashion elite status comes in ALL shapes and sizes, so not matter how much hair you have on your head or if you are shopping in the “irregular” sizes, it’s NOT what you have on the inside that counts it’s what you WEAR on the outside!

  • Learn from past losses, i.e. if you were eliminated early or beat by someone you thought was a hack, instead of bashing them take a page from their book (or better yet GQ) and UP YOUR GAME!

My point is this….it’s NOT rocket science, do your homework, look at the Coaches that advanced, listen to and refer back to past articles myself and the Committee have written as tools you can use to do better next season. Now that being said, you have an ENTIRE YEAR to prepare for next year which I have been told will bring some possible new formatting and some BIG surprises. So PLEASE don’t spend the off season on the Golf Course in some tragic print shirt and pleated shorts. If I see any of you doing this consider NO invitation next year. You may not know it but the Fashion Police are ALWAYS watching!

And remember……KEEP IT SEXY!
