It’s
almost that time again. The 2010
Runway to the Fashionable 4 is about
ready to kick off. The Conference
Champions have already been
announced and the at-large bids to
the Fashion Tournament will be
passed out shortly.
The 2010 NCAA and NIT Tournaments
have provided me the opportunity to
do a lot of additional scouting.
And I must say that the coaches were
really styling in the 2010
CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
Buzz Peterson (Appalachian State)
is a regal as they come, but
Buzz parts with the sport coat
before the first media timeout.
Still he figures to be in the
tournament.
Dan Altman (Creighton) is
another “no jacket” coach, but Dana
also pulls it off nicely. It’s
impressive that he is so intense and
yet his shirt remains so neatly
pressed.
Jim Larranaga (George Mason)
looks very Presidential. The
buttoned-up look is quite the
contrast from Buzz and Dana. He’s
very sharp!
Kermit Davis (Middle Tennessee)
has managed to recruit some great
threads to Murfreesboro, TN. Kermit
is styling when he is lounging at
home.
Bob Thomason (Pacific) is the
West Coast’s version of Larranaga. A
Thomason-Larranaga (or a Larranaga-Thomason)
ticket would get a lot of votes.
Like Coach L, he is a class act
also.
Cuonzo Martin (Missouri State)
is an up and comer. In only his
second season he has turned around
the fortunes of the Bears. He has
bright future on the court and maybe
on the catwalk.

Hello
and welcome to the 2010 Runway to
the Fashionable 4. I am excited to
be a part of CollegeInsider.com’s
Fashion Madness. The lovely Jill
Montgomery will be working on some
stylistic features, the debonair
Seth Greenberg will provide the
commentary and I will be tasked with
picking the winners on the catwalk.
It should be a lot of fun!
Last year Louisville’s Rick Pitino
claimed the title of America’s most
stylish. Hard to believe that it was
Coach Pitino’s first-ever fashion
crown. Is anybody more regal on the
sidelines? Maybe Villanova’s Jay
Wright would have something to say
about that and there is no question
that Coach Greenberg has an opinion.
I think I need to work on a list of
College Basketball’s best-dressed
follicle challenged coaches. Maybe a
list of the most stylish
non-division I coaches. And perhaps
even a list of the most dapper
members of the media. Are there any?
Just kidding.
