Overview:
This is a program that has built itself into one
of the most consistent postseason competitors in the
nation. Wisconsin is one of just six teams to have
won its first round NCAA Tournament game in each of
the last four years. Bo Ryan’s seven tourney wins
are a school record and he's the first Badger coach
to lead a team to two Sweet 16 appearances.
Potential Difference Maker: Junior swingman
Alando Tucker can be a lights out scorer, but his
leadership ablities are just as valuable to the
Badger cause. Tucker averages 20.0 ppg in league
games while also pulling down 5.7 boards a contest.
If he gets going, another visit to the Sweet Sixteen
is a very real possibility.
On Offense: They will run Bo Ryan’s swing
offense that tries to isolate players inside while
allowing the shooters to spot up on the perimeter..
They do not have the big guards that cause matchup
problems this year, but the offense fits their best
player Alando Tucker. They will play with patience
seeking out good shots.
On Defense: They will play solid man-to-man
defense with the intent on stopping dribble
penetration. They make few mistakes defensively and
will not gamble.
Strength: Their style of play is always a
strength at this time of year. They are very
consistent with what they do and can be a
frustrating opponent for teams that do not want to
play a half-court game.
Weakness: They have trouble getting
consistent scoring outside of Tucker, so they need
Brian Butch and Kammron Taylor to play well to win.
Key to Success: They must control the tempo
of the game and get to the foul line where they shot
almost 150 shots more than their opponents. Their
best players have very little room for error, so
they must play well to win.
How to Beat Them: Contain Tucker and Taylor
on offense, as they have very few others that can
create offense. Find ways to get some easy baskets
off of turnovers, offensive rebounds, or fast break
opportunities.
