WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE PANTHERS
Coach: Rob Jeter | Record: 21-8
Overview:
After making a surprising run into the Sweet
Sixteen last year, Wisconsin-Milwaukee will look to
do the same this time around after securing the
Horizon League Tournament title with a comfortable
87-71 win over Butler. First-year coach Rob Jeter
has kept the good times rolling after Bruce Pearl
left to take the Tennessee job. This is a battle
tested squad with plenty of postseason experience,
so keep that in mind when filling out your bracket.
Potential Difference Maker: Guard Boo Davis
can make his presence felt in many different ways.
He was among the top ten players in the Horizon
League in scoring, free throw percentage,
three-point percentage and steals. And at 6'3", he
ranks among the better rebounding guards in the
nation, pulling down nearly five boards a contest.
On Offense: They will run their swing offense
looking for open cuts to the basket. After running
their offense, they will look for mismatches
allowing them to dribble penetrate and look for
their shooters on the perimeter and they
relentlessly crash the boards.
On Defense: They are a very aggressive on-the
ball defensive team that will still press at times
(1-2-1-1 press). Chris Hill is a point guard that
can disrupt offenses.
Strength: They have 5 guys that can shoot the
basketball and Tucker is difficult to cover because
of his versatility. This is an experienced group
that knows how to win in the NCAA Tournament.
Weakness: They are at their best in
transition, so they can struggle in a half-court
game, and zone defense can be effective as it limits
their dribble penetration.
Key to Success: If they force the tempo of
the game and Tigert is effective inside, they will
be difficult to beat once again.
How to Beat Them: Change defenses and handle
their half-court and full-court pressure. Make them
play a half-court game and limit them to one shot on
offense.
