UCLA BRUINS
Coach: Ben Howland |  Record: 31-6

How they got to Indy: After blowing out Belmont 78-44, they won three close games, holding on to beat Alabama 62-59, coming from behind to beat Gonzaga 73-71 and winning a 50-45 slugfest with Memphis. UCLA has proven the theory that defense wins championships as they have given up more than 30 points in a half of basketball only once in four NCAA Tournament games.

Did you Know: Ryan Hollins has shot 17-20 from the field in the NCAA tournament, an unheard of 85% from the field.

On Offense: From sets to motion. They use a lot of doubles and slips. Double-screens for Farmar and Afflalo. Their best offense is their ability to control the tempo and be patient in their motion offense.

On Defense: They are almost exclusively a man-to-man team. They do a nice job of containing perimeter shooters. They don’t look to choke off the passing lanes as much. Their players take on the challenge of stopping the other team’s best player.

Weakness: At times Farmar can get away from the offensive game plan and try to create too much. They are also not real strong at the five-spot. They are not a good free throw shooting team and have gotten away with poor foul shooting in the tournament.

Keys to Beating LSU: Their inside players will have to rebound better, as they have been outrebounded in their last three games. Farmar and Afflalo will have to shoot well, because LSU does a great job of protecting the basket. UCLA’s two best players shot 13-44 in their wins over Gonzaga and Memphis, which will not be good enough to beat LSU. Both teams play at a similar tempo, so they do not have to worry about slowing the game down, but if they get beat in the paint as badly as Texas it will be too difficult to win the game.
