INDIANA HOOSIERS
Coach: Mike Davis | Record: 18-11
Overview:
Mike Davis is a lame duck coach finishing out
one of the more difficult head coaching experiences
that anyone in recent memory has had to endure. If
the Hoosiers are going to send Davis out a winner,
it will likely come via the long ball. No Big Ten
team made more than the 241 threes that Indiana
converted during the regular season, and no team
shot from behind the arc at a better clip (40.4%).
Potential Difference Maker: Big man Marco
Killingsworth gets most of the press in Bloomington
for the scoring punch he provides down low. But he's
a fairly one dimensional player who could do more on
defense. Guard Robert Vaden is the Hoosier who'll
end up being the X-factor. He can play all over the
floor and his outside shooting touch has gotten
better this season.
On Offense: They will run a lot of pro sets
that set double screens for their guards or isolate
Marco Killingsworth in the post. They definitely
want to use their perimeter shooters to spreadthe
floor giving Killingsworth room to score inside.
On Defense: They are a man-to-man defensive
team that will play conservatively. They do not have
a lot of size around the basket as in year’spast.
Strength: They are a very god perimeter
shooting team and Killingsworth is one of the best
in the country on the block. They are playing their
best basketball right now.
Weakness: They can rely too much on perimeter
shooting and lack size in the paint on defense. They
only average 2.4 blocks per game. Killingsworth is
their only real inside threat
Key to Success: They must play solid defense
and keep their opponents under 70 points per game
(15-1). Killingsworth has to play big to give
Indiana an inside-outside scoring threat.
How to Beat Them: Pressure Indiana’s guards
on the perimeter to disrupt their offensive
screening and be physical with Killingsworth to take
him out of the game.
