GEORGETOWN HOYAS
Coach: John Thompson, III |  Record: 21-9

Overview: Georgetown is the type of team that can run up and down the floor with you, or lull you to sleep and hit you with some nasty backdoor cuts. And this team has already proven it can take down the best after having beaten top ranked Duke back in January. Tough defense has been a hallmark of this team, with the Hoyas limiting the opposition to fewer than 60 points a game so far this season. So pay close attention to Georgetown as this tournament unfolds, this team might be poised to make some postseason noise.

Potential Difference Maker: Senior forward Brandon Bowman withdrew his name from the NBA Draft last June, and Georgetown is all the better because of it. Bowman is third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.4 ppg, and is third on the team in rebounding, grabbing 5.1 a contest. He's obviously got the NBA on his mind, so he might view this tournament as the perfect opportunity to showcase his talent for the pros.

On Offense: They get a lot of easy baskets with their Princeton-hybrid style. They don’t run it on every trip down the floor. They do a nice job of mixing it up to get just the right balance to be effective. Jeff Green’s ability to pass and put the ball on the floor makes them so tough on offense. They will run when it’s there.

On Defense: They will go man-to-man and with their size, range and athleticism they will give you a tough zone look as well.

Strength: They are so patient and methodical on offense. They will wear you down with their back-door cuts. Their system is so effective because they are so athletic.

Weakness: Experience. The program hasn’t been to the NCAA tournament in a few years so this is all new to this group. They have to offset that inexperience by being hungry.

Key to Success: Easy baskets. Their success is really predicated on getting some easy baskets. If they aren’t getting layups they can be in trouble.

How to Beat Them: You can’t let them dictate tempo. You have to disrupt their flow. Pressure them a little to keep them from getting into their offense so quickly.
