FLORIDA GATORS
Coach: Billy Donovan | Record: 31-6 |
 |
|
| |
How
they got to Indy: They absolutely manhandled two
mid-major teams; South Alabama 76-50 and
UW-Milwaukee 82-60. They held on to beat a tough
Georgetown team 57-53 and played a game as well as
anyone has played in the tournament by pounding
Villanova with their strength inside 75-62
Did You Know: Florida has averaged 7.5
blocked shots per game in the NCAA Tournament and
their opponents are shooting 33% against them in the
NCAA’s.
On Offense: They run a lot of motion. Lee
Humphrey’s ability to shoot it can really stretch
out the defense, which creates a lot of
opportunities for others. They are an extremely good
passing team and use Noah and Horford to help create
shots.
On Defense: They do a good job of giving you
multiple looks. They will press, but their strength
on defense is keeping you off balance.
Weakness: Experience. How will they respond
in a tight game down the stretch? So far they have
won most of their games pretty handily. They do not
get much point production from their bench.
Keys to Beating George Mason: Right now, I
think Florida is playing the best of anyone in the
tournament. They will need to continue to share the
basketball and get point production from their
starters. If Noah and Horford can continue to
dominate the paint on defense, it will be tough for
George Mason to beat them. However, they need to do
a good job in transition as I think Uconn was
stunned by Mason’s ability to get the ball up the
floor. Florida’s guards must continue to play with
confidence, as George Mason’s physical defense will
try to force their guards to make plays.
Who Will Win The Game: This game will be very
exciting for the fans who will see more up and down
action than in the other Final Four game. Also,
George Mason is the real story here. I will be
interested to see how they handle the pressure of
this game. Before UConn, everyone expected them to
lose, but now everyone will be talking about the
what if’s. I thought that Florida was just
tremendous against Villanova, and they are playing
great basketball on both ends of the floor. I look
for Noah and Horford to continue their dominance
inside and handle George Mason’s runs throughout the
game. I would have like George Mason’s chances
better against LSU or UCLA, but I am going with
Florida 79-65.
THE NEXT NCAA CHAMPION IS: THE FLORIDA GATORS
I like Florida to win an all SEC championship 70-64
final, as they will control the tempo of the game
and expose LSU’s guard play with their defense. It
is never easy to beat a team 3 times in one season,
but if you are not a Gator than in 2006 you are
Gator Bait. |
