ALBANY GREAT
DANES
Coach: Will Brown | Record: 21-10
Overview:
With an abundance of experience and talent, the
Great Danes were clearly the America East’s best
team during the regular season and they dominated
postseason in much the same fashion. This program
was going nowhere fast, when Will Brown took over
five years ago. He made strides every season, which
finally resulted in the schools first-ever
appearance in the conference championship game and
its first-ever ticket to the big dance.
Potential Difference Maker: Jamar Wilson is
an explosive 6-foot-1 guard with a nose for the
basket. He is the epitome of a scorer. Despite his
big numbers he does a nice job of playing within
himself. He rarely tries to do too much, instead
opting to get others involved. It all revolves
around No. 31.
On Offense: They are a guard driven offense
looking to spread the floor and penetrate and kick
to shooters or get in the lane. All of their guards
are dangerous off of the dribble, so they will set a
lot of ballscreens.
On Defense: Man-to-man aggressive pressure
defense that will extend on the wings and pick teams
up in the backcourt.
Strength: Their ability to score on the
perimeter and to create shots off of the dribble.
They have a great player in Jamar Wilson who creates
for others and gets to the foul line.
Weakness: They are vulnerable on the boards
and if you handle their pressure, they are not a
great defensive team. Because they use the dribble
so much, they will turn it over.
Keys to Success: They must rebound the ball
and force turnovers with their pressure defense.
They will match-up well against a guard-oriented
team.
How to Beat Them: Handle their pressure
defense and frustrate them by defending their
dribble penetration. You have to shut down Wilson.
